Van Wyck Expressway Capacity & Access Improvements to JFK Airport – Contract 2
ALRA is providing quality control inspection services for this design-build project which is the second of three projects for bridge rehabilitation along I-678 for future widening.


Key Features:

Atlantic Ave and 94th Avenue:

  • Complete removal and replacement of bridge structure and substructure
  • Construction of bikeway/walkway, retaining walls, barriers, sign structures
  • Replacement of drainage system, street lighting, and ITS system

    LIRR Atlantic Branch Tracks #1-4, Receiving Yard Lead Track, and West Bound Montauk Track:

    • Retrofitting of lower-level double-deck bridge for managed use lane construction on Van Wyck Expressway

    LIRR Main Line Tracks #2 & #4, Track 10 West & Atlantic 5 Track:

    • Retrofitting of upper-level double-deck bridge for managed use lane construction on Van Wyck Expressway

    LIRR Main Line Tracks #1 & #3:

    • Complete removal and replacement of the railroad bridge structure and substructure

    LIRR Atlantic 6 Track:

    • Replacement of existing Jay switches with new paneled concrete non-standard LH turnouts
    • Miscellaneous track work

    Additional Work:

    • Upgrading curb ramps for ADA compliance
    • Replacing/upgrading traffic signals
    • Utility replacement and relocation
    • Work Zone Traffic Control
